The situation
Beneva Black is a Swiss online beauty shop, founded in 2017. From a standing start, the brand needed real customer volume, fast, across more than one market — and profitably, not growth funded by burning through the founders' runway. Facebook and Instagram advertising ended up doing most of that work. The GIDOR Group acquired the company in February 2020; R17 has continued running performance marketing for the brand since, independent of the change in ownership.
The call
Lead with the problem, not the product.
Cosmetics ads that open on the product get lost in a crowded feed — everyone's shampoo looks like everyone else's shampoo. So the paid social creative opened on the problem it solved instead, direct-response structure adapted for beauty, run hardest on Facebook and Instagram where the audience actually was. That approach, repeated and refined, is what took the brand from zero to 50,000 customers across three markets.
The work
From a standing start
to three markets
Facebook and Instagram ads structured around the customer's problem first, product second — the direct-response approach that drove most of the 50,000-customer number.
The same approach run and adapted across Switzerland, Germany and Austria, rather than optimized for one home market and left there.
In January 2022, R17 executed a brand refresh and migrated the store from WooCommerce to Shopify — both landing positive results rather than disrupting what was working.
R17 kept running performance marketing for Beneva Black straight through the GIDOR Group's 2020 acquisition, outlasting the change of ownership.
The results
Numbers we put on a scoreboard.
I co-founded Beneva International AG in 2017 and sold it to the GIDOR Group after 3 years. The online beauty shop has over 50,000 customers.
